Martin Thompson

Martin Thompson has appeared on television - both national & local,
including Noel Edmonds' Multicoloured Swap Shop (The
great grandfather of BBC 1's Live & Kicking), Home to Wales (BBC 2),
Dinas, Coleg (HTV), Pobol Y Cwm (S4C), The
Real Merlin documentary following the film Merlin (S4C). He
is a member of Equity and the International
Brotherhood of Magicians / British Ring.
Martin qualified as a science teacher at Swansea in
1979, and has youth work experience. He has recently
become a first aider. Martin has extensive experience
in entertainment, particularly with children's shows. With the
assistance of his "trusty" robot dog, Mascot, is able
to entertain with games, competitions, quizzes, activities, magic and
balloon modelling.
He
started with discos in the late '70's and developed a
successful children's show, travelling as far as
Aberystwyth, Brecon, Cardiff and the Isle of Wight.
The
mid '80's to the '90's saw the launch of the outdoor roadshow, which
has toured most of south Wales and as far as London,
and has done shows for children with special needs including the
Variety Club of Great Britain and Children of
Chernobyl. The Public Address was another area which saw him
and
Adam
covering the Welsh Sheep Dog Trials 1998.
Martin and his crew have magic, puppets and various
routines in conjunction with Morriston Hospital's Radio Freeway to
entertain the children whilst collecting their record requests from
the special 'Oakwood' children's ward. He has been greatly influenced
by Robin Williams' role in the film 'Patch Adams', in helping the
healing process and creating Dr. Ted - with laughter being the best medicine.
Martin's interests include photography and science fiction. His
houshold includes three cats and the original Mascot robot dog, who is
over 20 years old that appeared on national television.
"Entertainers are advised to avoid children and animals -
Martin Thompson revels in both, even though Mascot is not quite
canine!"
