DJ Tom Hyatt - Crew - Diamond Dust

DJ Tom Hyatt: “2016 was a year of intriguing gigs. As DJs in Cardiff, we had a variety of occasions/celebrations. The first gig that comes to mind was the Water Aid charity event in the Cardiff Mercure Hotel, which was organised by the Welsh Water Company. Martin and I provided the music at the event for roughly 200 people.

We backed a very entertaining blues-themed band called The Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Big Band. The gig was one of my favourites from last year. We got to be part of a great cause. We got to meet the band and entertained the caring and considerate people from the Welsh Water team.

Another DJ event that stands out from last year was the wedding Martin and I, attended at the Manor Park Country House, Clydach, Swansea. I enjoyed this gig, as the audience requested a wide range of music from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and current era. The best moment from this gig is when the groom borrowed our microphone and told all the guests to get on the dance floor and dance to the Macarena, and they sure did!

To end the year, we DJ are in Port Talbot, providing our service at a New Year’s party in the Aberavon Beach Hotel, Port Talbot. We backed a very talented and diverse band called “The Fonz and The Poet”. The audience responded well to our music, and the band’s song choices too. It was a great way to end 2016 and enter 2017. Hope to see you all sometime this year!”

DJ Ethan Gray - Crew - DJ Diamond Dust

DJ Ethan Gray – Crew – DJ Diamond Dust

DJ Ethan Gray: “2016 has been a good year for me. It’s my second season as a DJ with Diamond Dust, and hasn’t it been a blast! I’ve met some brilliant people form Radio Freeway, and have performed at many gigs. This year has allowed me to boost my confidence and achieve great things.  I can’t wait to see what 2017 has to offer!

If I had to pick three venues which I enjoyed the most, they would have to be St Agnus Church in Port Talbot, the Pentrepoeth Primary School prom, Newport, and Morriston Community Centre, Swansea.

I can’t wait for 2017 to see what characters I will meet! I want to thank Martin Thompson for letting me be a part of the Diamond Dust team – without him all this wouldn’t be possible!”

DJ Kelly Jack Roberts: “2016 has been a blast with DJ Diamond Dust. I started at Maplin Electronic Store in Swansea, then a school prom in Newport Gwent and also a carnival in Abergwili, near Carmarthen. Not only have I been to new places: but I’ve met new people such as other members of the Diamond Dust crew and the Radio Freeway crew. 2016 has been such an amazing year for DJ Diamond Dust and me, and we all cannot wait to see what 2017 holds for us”.

DJ Martin Thompson: “It has been a rich and varied this year. We have travelled throughout South and Mid Wales – even as far as, Milton Keynes during the summer to meet Mat Irvine, the creator and developer of Doctor Who’s K9.

We have made visits to quite a few holiday parks; our most frequent visit has been to New Minerton Holiday Park, Tenby. We always have a warm welcome.

8 Ft Robot Cat at the National Waterfront Museum

8 Ft Robot Cat at the National Waterfront Museum

Our 8-Foot-Robot-Cat  has visited a few unusual venues including a day at Waterfront Museum, Swansea – Festival of Science week.

Rhoose Social Club, near Cardiff, was one of my favourite children’s birthday parties. I have not been there before. We had a great mixture of ages of children with different tastes in music. They enjoyed the magic show and joined in to keep Mascot the Robot dog company”.

January Discos in Swansea and Neath

This month gigs included a children’s birthday party at Carnegie Hall, Skewen. I was a Swansea Children’s Entertainer again – a repeat from last year a very welcoming, happy interactive party. Ethan was the DJ at this venue in Neath.

The Naval and Military Club, Port Talbot was the venue of a 40th birthday party, being a DJ in Port Talbot, keeping up with the party songs and hits.

We were DJs at Swansea Uplands RFC, Upper Killay, was a mixture of young audience at a 21-year-old birthday party with plenty of lively dancing from the parents and their friends as well. It was great to meet up with friends we had not seen in a while, an excellent time to catch up.

I was a Children’s Entertainer at Neath Scout Hall. It was the venue for a 5-year-old birthday party with some fancy dress and a very active party – great fun!

Tom and I were DJs in Cardiff at the Discovery Pub – a 21st birthday and amazing fancy dress costumes. We had 62 requests – we did our best to play the majority of them. We played 80s hits and modern day chart music. It’s a brilliant pub with a great atmosphere. Thanks, guys!

We have done children’s Christmas Parties in:

  • Cwmavon RFC, near Port Talbot
  • The Prince of Wales, Porthcawl

We had a 70s themed night at the Cricket Club in Neath which was very entertaining for all. DJ Diamond Dust had a lively evening in the Village Hotel, Swansea where a Bikers group had their annual celebration. They could not be more hospitable and welcoming.  It was a memorable night.  We had a return to the Wig and Pen in Swansea for the locals.

It was great to see old friends for a 21st Birthday Party in the newly refurbished function room at The West Cross Inn, Mumbles, near Swansea.

There was a return to Stebonheath Football Club, Llanelli, for a Special Needs Children’s Christmas Party. It was good to see how they were since last year.  Another children’s party was a 9th birthday party at Seven Sisters Welfare Hall – what a beautiful hall! It was once a swimming pool converted into a function room and a library.

We had a school disco for a transition year at Dwr-y-Felin Comprehensive School, Neath.  It was great to let out all the special lighting effects for this teenage disco.

This month, I have been learning about making videos on YouTube. We hope that readers will have a fuller picture of who we are and what we do. You can find out more about Mascot the Robot Dog.

Visit our YouTube Channel DJ Diamond Dust. I hope you like it. We also include some other videos which might entertain you and put a smile on your face.

The Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel, Newport Road, Cardiff was one of the highlights of this month’s gig.

DJ Tom Hyatt was the main DJ for this event as the audience need current chart music. We had the privilege of backing a 7-piece-band called  “Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band”.  It was a large venue right in the middle of Cardiff.

See more on our YouTube Channel, DJ Diamond Dust. More videos to follow as we gig around Cardiff, Swansea, Newport, Carmarthen and Neath. We have a new surprise 60th birthday party at the Ruperra Club, Trethomas, Cardiff. It was perfect for playing a mixture of current songs with the golden oldies. St Catherine’s Church Hall, Llandaff, Cardiff was another gig with DJ in Cardiff, Ethan Gray. We entertained at the children with games, activities, magic and of course, Mascot the Robot Dog. I also did a 5-year-old children’s show with the disco at Rhoose Social Club, near Cardiff.

DJ in Carmarthen

We have travelled around Carmarthenshire. We had a disco at the Halfway Inn, Nantgaredig, Carmarthen. It was an annual ball for a pony club. We mix a wide range of music, as the audience had a wide age range of ages and tastes. We have visited Garnant Golf Club, Ammanford, where Tom Hyatt and I were the DJs. The husband and wife were renewing their marriage vows.  Ethan Gray and I ran a disco at Penybanc Welfare Hall, Ammanford for a surprise 80th birthday party.

We did a few gigs in the Swansea area.   These included:

  • a surprise 30th birthday party at Gorseinon Workingmen’s Club in Gorseinon
  • an engagement party at Samlet Workingmen’s Club, Llansamlet
  • a children’s birthday party, Morriston RFC, Swansea

It was Kelly’s first solo gig. He did brilliantly! I provided the games, magic, balloon modelling and Mascot the Robot Dog. It was amazing how quickly he got used to the controls of the mixer. He has always been good with technology, so the laptop was easy for him.

DJ in Neath – 13th Birthday Party

Written by   in

DJ Diamond Dust ran the music at the Celtic Lodge, Neath where the event was a 13th birthday party. We even included UV lighting and a laser effect in the light show. We played the current chart and dance music along with the many requests taken. It was great to see teenagers enjoying and interacting with us.  It was indeed a night to remember.

I ran a splendid Wedding Disco at the Mansion House, Llansteffan. I played plenty of requests and a variety of music as well as the old standards.  It was good to vary the level of the music. It was a background level during the beginning as the guests were settling in after their meal. Afterwards, I raised the sound levels and got them dancing.

We have done many discos and children’s parties in the Carmarthen area, including:

  • the Ivy Bush Royal Hotel
  • the Civic Hall
  • Porthyrhyd Village Hall
  • the Scout Hall

Entertaining in a Nursing Home in Ammanford

DJ Ethan and Mascot at Glan Garnant Nursing Home

It is not very often that we are asked to do Nursing Homes, but we put a great deal of care and respect for our performance. It was something different, and we adapted.

We were asked to entertain at Glan Garnant Nursing Home for a 70th birthday party. We played requests, chatted, entertained with magic and balloon modelling.

Mascot, the Robot Dog, moved around the room, making sure that he did not get in the way. He gave the residents plenty of attention when they called him over.
